The Department of Psychiatry recognizes the vital importance of psychiatric education in the medical student curriculum and plays a dynamic role in the teaching of medical students at KMU (Kerman University).

Students complete a (3)4-week clerkship in psychiatry during their M3 year at Shahid Beheshti hospital. The clerkship provides extensive hands-on clinical experience with residents and attends. Moreover, students attend adult outpatient clinics (6 days a week). In order to improve students’ abilities to make a precise differential diagnosis, the faculty and residents start discussing the patients' conditions with students, considering history taking, mental status examination, and identify psychiatric symptoms.

Interns will be assigned to a single faculty/resident during clinical rotations, and also attend ward rounds and clinics. The faculty adresses the patients’ conditions with interns emphasizing more on diagnosis and management.

One day a week is dedicated to Grand Rounds (The Psychiatry Department's Grand Rounds are typically held on Tuesday mornings, between September and June, in the Shahid Beheshti hospital) and journal clubs (on Sunday mornings). A weekly morning report is devoted to the students and interns.
